Mr. Babar Mumtaz is the Partner of Mumtaz and Brohi. He is a trial lawyer specializing in civil and criminal litigation before courts, specialist tribunals, and quasi-judicial forums. He also has extensive experience in conducting arbitrations for both public and private institutions.
Mr. Babar has extensive experience in civil, Telecom, Tax, Real estate, inheritance, family, labour and commercial litigation. He has handled litigation in courts, provided legal consultancy, and appeared before quasi-judicial forums and specialized for various institutional clients such as Civil Aviation Authority, Nayatel Pvt Ltd, National Highway Authority, Pakistan mobile Communications Limited, Turnotech Pvt. Ltd, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and Federal Board of Revenue.
Mr. Babar has specialized experience in contentious matters relating to real estate and land development. He has represented clients against various housing schemes and authorities and has assisted members of cooperative housing societies before the Cooperative Department for redressal of disputes with their societies.
He has a keen interest in labour laws and has advised several non-governmental organizations, including CARE International, Save the Children UK, the Network for Consumer Protection, Isra Islamic Foundation, Sightsavers, Phoenix Security Services (Private) Limited, and Islamic Relief. His advisory work includes updating and revising HR manuals in line with evolving labour laws and policies.
Previously, Mr. Babar worked as in-house counsel for Emaar Pakistan (Private) Limited, a leading real estate development company. In this role, he advised on a wide range of legal issues, ensured corporate compliance including filing of annual returns and documentation with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, and advised on development projects in close liaison with the Defence Housing Authority on joint venture and land acquisition matters. He handled litigation relating to disputes with contractors and employees and drafted extensive customer-related documentation, including agreements to sell, affidavits, undertakings, termination agreements, relinquishment and adjustment forms, transfer forms, and mortgage documents.
Mr. Babar has also advised and assisted Nayatel (Private) Limited, a leading telecom company, on disputes with various housing societies concerning the acquisition of right of way for the establishment of telecom infrastructure. He successfully handled litigation relating to employment bonds, right of access to information, and customer complaints concerning services provided by Nayatel.
